Gavel Passed from Wagner to Silverman

After the introduction of the new 2005-2006 Board of Officers and Directors, (see attached list), Charlie Wagner, owner of the Wicker Lady and NBA President from 2003 to 2005, passed the President’s gavel to Mark Silverman of Mark’s Moving.

Charlie remarked that she greatly enjoyed her tenure as President, but she was looking forward to more free time to devote to her family and business. 

Although, Wagner’s goal to increase membership, improve programs and member benefits has been realized during her presidency, she   assured NBA members that Mark Silverman’s  dynamic skills as a businessperson will continue to propel the upward growth of the organization.

Mark’s first use of the President’s gavel will occur at the December 5th board meeting.

Needham News—NBA member raises money for Town study

The Town of Needham is planning to conduct a study of the downtown area. The study will    address zoning, parking, land use and traffic in the Needham Center area.  After completion of the study, a comprehensive plan for Needham center can be established.

A $30,000 grant from the State will be received, town meeting has approved $25,000 and the business community has been asked to raise $25,000 toward the $80,000 predicted cost of the study. 

With the assistance of EDAC chair, John Edgar, NBA Past President Louise Condon and member of Economic Development Advisory Committee sent letters to landlords and businesses in Needham seeking tax deductible contributions. .

To date, the Condon/Edgar team has raised $14,000.

Taylor’s Stationery Supports Needham Cares Gift Giving Program

NBA board member, Jack McQuillan of Taylor’s Stationery recently agreed to donate gift bags for the Needham Cares gift giving program.

Needham Cares is a group of about 40 Needham organizations, including the NBA, that recently assembled to begin  efforts to support the hurricane stricken areas in the South,  including Bay St. Louis, Pearlington and Waveland Mississippi.

The gift giving program is from November 28 to December 10. 

To participate in the program, first visit Taylor’s Stationery at 1451 Highland Avenue, Needham, and pick up the free gift bag and flyer explaining the gifts needed. Fill the bag with gifts, identify the age group, and then drop off the bag to  Presbyterian Church at the corner of Central and Great Plain Avenue M-F 10 am—5 pm, Sat. 9 am—12 pm until December 10th

Little Miss Pink launches new online store….

NBA member Little Miss Pink has announced it’s new online store.

Founded 2 years ago, owner Karen Cutler  realized that the cute embellished girl’s socks that she made her daughter were the hit in the playground.

Cutler began to market her socks and other cute girl’s and women’s items, including belts, purses and accessories.

Visible at the NBA’s fair, Little Miss Pink is growing with her new online store found at www.littlemisspink.com.

Peacock Feather moves to larger space

NBA member, Peacock Feather recently moved next door to 1090 Great Plain Avenue. The new space gives Lisa Bennett a greater opportunity to market her children's/teen gifts.
